Who has the edge in the 2008 Wimbledon Championship Match of Federer vs. Nadal?
"I don’t think it matters really a lot if I’m the favorite or not. I’m on an incredible winning streak on grass. First, somebody has to be able to break that before we start talking differently," quipped Roger Federer.
Roger Federer brings a 65-match winning streak on the grass and 40 consecutive victories at Wimbledon into this Sunday’s Wimbledon final against Rafael Nadal, but LazerWager oddsmakers don’t favor either player.
"This is the third consecutive year that Federer and Nadal will face each other in the Wimbledon final," said Dan DelGato, director of operations for LazerWager. "Nadal is looking for revenge after losing back-to-back years to Federer at Wimbledon while Federer is looking to win his sixth straight Wimbledon title, so both men have a lot riding on this match," added DelGato.
They sure do. If Roger Federer can beat Nadal for the third straight year, he’ll be the first man since the 1980s to win six consecutive Wimbledon titles and would earn him a 13th Grand Slam championship, placing him just one behind Pete Sampras.
While Federer has handily defeated Nadal the past two years at Wimbledon, Nadal actually owns an 11-6 advantage over Federer, including a 3-0 record in the French Open finals.
"Federer doesn’t care if he’s the favorite or not, because he’s extremely confident due of his overwhelming success at Wimbledon," stated Delgato. "However, overconfidence could be his biggest opponent, or did you already forget about horse trainer Richard Dutrow’s remarks about Big Brown before he finished dead-last in the Belmont Stakes?"
Weather you think Roger Federer will continue his amazing winning streak at Wimbledon, or believe Rafael Nadal will finally get his Wimbledon revenge, you can get the same odds on both players as LazerWager lists them as co-favorites at -120 this Sunday.
